Second Trimester!

Wow, I haven't updated in quite some time, sorry!

So now that I'm in my second trimester, life is SO much better!  I finally have time and energy to be productive, so here's what we've been up to:

Last weekend we made it down to Cinci and visited my brother and sister-in-law.  While there, they took us downtown where we had a drink (or soda) and watched Cincinnati win their last game before March Madness.  On the way, Wombat and I stopped at IKEA and finally purchased a crib, dresser/changing table and bookcase for the nursery!  The grand total was only $450, so we are really pleased.  The crib even converts to a bed:

Yay us!   This weekend, we plan to paint the nursery a gender-neutral cream, and find some cool fabric with which to make our own curtains.  Here's what we like so far:

Just fun, colorful fabrics that make us (and hopefully the baby) feel happy to look at them.  We might actually pick 2 different ones and purposefully clash them together for a more homemade look.  We could edge them in the same green or red, to tie the room together. Then, I'd use the same green or red fabric to make a floor poof pillow that our little one can use when it begins to learn to walk.

Anyway, we're also busy scheduling many family and friend visits while we still can.  So far, here's our second trimester schedule:

Tonight:  March Madness mini-party with wombat, dad, and another good friend at our house.  Meal plan:  wombat's famous burgers, soy-and-maple glazed salmon, and some sort of potato dish.  Side of peas for the baby :)

Tomorrow:  Tour of the Maternity center at Riverside, followed by coupon-shopping, then more bball for the wombat and friend(s) while I attempt to move our gutters, rip up the back deck, and design a garage barrier with dad.

Tuesday:  Mom's birthday dinner at our house with step-dad, aunt, uncle, and cousins.  Meal plan:  chicken cashew casserole, parmesan broccoli, and mac n cheese for the young kids.  Dark chocolate brownies with ice cream for dessert.

Thursday, March 24th:  Young Professionals of Lancaster charity bowling at Tiki Lanes for $2.50/person

Friday, 25th - Sunday, 27th:  Road trip to New York to celebrate wombat's grandmother's 90th birthday!  Hope to see the city and cousins while we're there as well.

Thurs, April 7:  GENDER ULTRA-SOUND in Cbus!   Can't wait!

Thursday, April 7th - Monday, 11th:  Wombat's mom comes to visit - hope to have nursery started by then!

Saturday, April 16- Sunday, 17th:  Wedding in D.C. and staying with law school friends in Alexandria the night before.  It's a Sunday brunch wedding, so should be fun!

Sat, April 23rd:  Birthday Bonfire for wombat at our house for his 27th birthday since it falls on Easter this year.

Friday, April 29 - Sunday, May 1:  Visit cousins in Indiana and paint matching pregnant (3 of us!) bellies like Easter eggs haha.

Whew.  Then we have my brother's birthday on May 14th, the Ohio Warrier Dash (don't ask) on June 4th and 5th, and then we are taking our "Babymoon" (last childless vacation) to the west coast!  Leaving Thursday, June 9th, flying into Seattle, spending my birthday (June 10th) having lunch in the Space Needle, driving to Cheney, WA for wombat's sister's graduation, driving to Vancouver to see friends and family, stopping in Portland to see more family, then driving down route 101 along the west coast for a week!  Staying with friends when we arrive in San Diego, then ending our trip in Vegas for two night before flying back home.   We just scored plane tix yesterday for less than $300 a person!  I'm so proud of myself and told wombat I should be rewarded with a maternity pedicure for my $200/person savings.

We are scheduling NOTHING after June since who knows how uncomfortable and tired I will be in the third tri.  However, if it goes well, I'll either volunteer or just watch Lancaster's Tour de Cause bike race in mid-July, and hopefully attend the Lancaster Festival concerts the last two weekends in July.  Hope to have our house updated by then, if not, wombat will be busy rushing to finish our safety projects, such as:
  • building a garage wall to block car exhaust from being sucked into our house ventilation
  • painting the living room and hall
  • fixing and installing electrical updates (light fixtures, outlets, grounding)
  • building a safety wall along our staircase so baby won't fall down the steps
  • installing a safety railing on the steps outside our front door
  • installing a safety railing down the staircase to the basement
  • hopefully installing a new bathtub in our upstairs bathroom so baby won't hurt itself while getting a bath!  And, ok, also for me, since I've been dying to have a whirlpool bath for years.  If wombat wants to get me a "push present," a new whirlpool tub would be number one on my list haha.
New windows, new roof, new deck, and a backyard fence are also on the wish list.

I think this is a thorough update for now, cheers!

  1. Holy Crap! You are the busiest pregnant woman I have ever imagined. Are you running in the warrior dash? That would be up there with running an ultra with built in breastfeeding stops!

Best of luck, and I'm glad to see you are blogging again!

  4. YES! You should! We're guessing that we'll be there around the weekend of June 17th-19th. Marissa is keeping those dates open for a visit, so do it! We found booking one-way flights was actually cheaper than round-trip, crazy.
